Although the construction sector is essential to economic progress, especially in emerging nations, it produces large amounts of construction and demolition waste (CDW), presenting substantial economic and environmental challenges. Effective CDW management is becoming increasingly critical as infrastructure development and urbanization accelerate. With an emphasis on both global and regional perspectives, this review paper tackles the crucial problem of waste management in the construction industry. In addition to discussing methods for minimizing waste generation—including waste avoidance, reuse, recycling, and sustainable construction practices— it highlights the negative environmental and economic impacts of construction waste. The study assesses the efficacy of local and global CDW management strategies by examining the governing laws and regulations. It also examines how contemporary technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and Building Information Modeling (BIM), can enhance waste management. Furthermore, the study investigates the challenges and barriers to efficient waste management in the construction industry and offers recommendations for improving current procedures. In alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the review’s findings emphasize that establishing an efficient and sustainable construction waste management system—one that promotes both economic growth and environmental preservation—requires coordinated efforts among industry stakeholders, policymakers, and technology developers.
